SYNTHESIZERS FOR BEGINNERS
Wednesday March 4 2026. 3 hours. Start 19:00.
Would you like to get started with synthesizers? Hardware or software? So you can make your own sounds for your music? This lesson will help you get started with that.
WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO?
Based on both hardware and software examples, we cover all the basic components that can be found in 90 percent of the synths. Oscillators, Filters, Amplifiers, Envelope Generators, LFOs and other “modulation sources” are explained and demonstrated. We make it clear how those elements work together. We make connections with acoustic instruments to make sound concepts clear. We discuss differences between digital and analog.
WHAT DO WE NEED?
You don’t need an expensive hardware synth to participate, the course covers concepts that can be found in all synthesizers, even free plugins. The idea is that you already work (a little) in a DAW (such as Ableton, Logic, Cubase etc etc) OR have access to a (non-FM-based) hardware synthesizer.

WHAT DO WE NEED TO KNOW?
Extensive prior knowledge is not necessary. It helps if you have a little bit of musical knowledge (what is pitch, what is rhythm) and a little bit of knowledge about electricity (what is voltage).
AND AFTerwards?
You will receive a PDF for reference afterwards.
One week after the course there will be an online question hour if there’s enough interest.
ANYTHING ELSE?
This course is taught in groups of a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 10 people and will be in English unless there are only Dutch speaking participants. The course takes place in Den Dolder.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
The cost is 75 euros including VAT and you can register at lessons@sonartraffic.nl with Synths for beginners as subject. Registration closes on March 2nd.
